Every October in St. George, Utah, thousands of athletes over the age of 50 compete in the Huntsman World Senior Games, the largest multi-sport event of its kind. From trail running to walking, mountain biking to climbing, track and field to the triathlon, competitors test themselves, share in the camaraderie of sport, and shine a light on the benefits of active aging—not just living longer, but living better as we age. I’ve photographed the Huntsman World Senior Games since 2010, and in that time, I’ve witnessed it firsthand: the grit, the passion, the connection between active living and better health. I’ve witnessed world records and personal bests, moments of triumph, camaraderie, and selflessness. I’ve made friends, shared stories, and, perhaps, most enduring, captured thousands of images, from former Olympians and professional athletes to amateurs proving that just because we age doesn’t mean we need to stop testing our limits.
