Down On Main
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is one of the world’s largest and most famous motorcycle events. It takes place every August in Sturgis, South Dakota, a small Black Hills town that swells to hundreds of thousands of visitors. The rally began in 1938 with the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club, making it one of the oldest rallies still running and a two-week event that generates significant tourism revenue for the town and region.
I spent five years documenting the rally, a majority of my time spent on Main Street among the roaring engines, custom bikes, leather, body paint, and those who made a pilgrimage to the place where this slice of American subculture is still alive.
